Shadowtalk is a peculiar variety of slang which originated on the [[shadownet]]s. However, it is now becoming increasingly common as street-slang, particularly among [[neopunk]] gangs.

Due to its origins in a slow-propagation text-only medium, shadowtext terms have often been thought out by their originators and may contain clever wordplay, allusions to popular culture, or obscure puns. The perceived 'cleverness' of a term seems to determine whether other readers will remember it and use it themselves.
