==Basic Precepts==
The series focuses on two sisters, Janino and Millicent Wonderful. These two come from the fictitious planet "Magic World", where abilities known as [[magic]] are commonly used. Magic World does not accept [[Ecclesiastical Law]], and so must keep itself secret.

Janino and Millicent travel to [[Deneb]], where they hope to find an easier life away from their meddlesome aunt Belle. However, they disagree on the use of magic during their stay in what they call the "Real Worlds": Janino believes that they must preserve their world's secrecy by no using magic, while Millicent is happy to use her powers as long as she doesn't get caught.

==Continuity==
The original series had several continuity issues, due to several writers working on different scripts simultaneously and within a tight deadline.

* Both sisters (at different points) refer to the other as "my younger sister".
* Their mother is named as both Moldivia and Bethany.
* Various minor characters make conflicting comments about when the sisters' father left.

Most errors such as these were later (after being spotted by fans) were transformed into plot points in later seasons.

* In season 4, the sisters are revealed to be twins. Both apparently believe themselves to be the elder, and were not aware that they had different opinions. Their argument over this later became a running gag.
* When they return home briefly in s6e19, we discover that the sisters actually have 2 lesbian mothers. A spell allowed them to communicate with an alternate universe where they were male, magically conceiving a daughter. An error in the spell resulted in both mothers becoming pregnant - so the twins were actually born at the same moment.
* In order to conceal their illegal use of magic, the mothers used another spell such that everyone who knows the girls develops false memories of their father. This is also used to explain why Crossman - who has never heard of Magic World - remembers meeting Millicent's father.

==Fan Community==
There is a thriving fan community for the series on the [[Magellan]] [[worldnet]], although many of the sites are actually used more as a permenant archive for the discussions from [[shadownet]] echo TV:speculation:whichcraft.

This group usually discusses their own theories about what might happen in future episodes of the series. Since the middle of season 10, they have assumed that the consensus opinions actually happened, and projeced future events based on this.

		+	It seems obvious that some of the writers were aware of the fan community. Some fan speculation (such as the manner of Crossman's exit) was clearly used when writing the official scripts. In addition, there were more explicit references. The "Book of Imaginary Designs" (a worldnet site listing known spells, inspired by [[Book of Complex Designs]]), for example, was introduced into the series in season 4 as a [[keynode]] in the Magic Worldnet.
