New page

In medical slang (especially among hospital doctors), an injury insufficiently serious to require any treatment. Originally from a treatment code at some hospitals for a shin/ankle injury, usually seen in the case of twisted ankles outside clubs. The term gradually came to mean any trivial injury; or the kind of over-anxious patient who would appear at the Prioriry Response Ward (supposed to be for accidental injuries and emergency treatment) with bruises and minor scrapes.

In popular culture, after the term was used on [[Doctor Mc Scotty]], many people seem to assume that "Shiankles" is a disease of some kind.

Both senses are in use on [[Shadownet]]s; although the word is more likely to refer to a hypochondriac patient themselves than to their minor injury.
