A unit of time based on the heartbeat of [[Pope Gradius II]], who first mandated metric time. The 'heartbeat' is now officially measured by an atomic clock kept at the [[Tomb of True Time]] on [[Sepulchrus Divinorum]], and the tick is broadcast throughout the universe by a ground [[ansible]]. Tourists often come to look at the 'clock pillar', approximately 3m high and 80cm in diameter, which sits beside Gradius's sarcophagus. What most don't realise is that this only contains the ansible, power distribution system and a set of chimes - the atomic clock itself is inside the sarcophagus, within an electronic pacemaker connected to a heart long since decayed.
