Antipope Xrist

Among the most dangerous of the acknowledged Antipopes, Xrist led a cult known as the Democratic Papal Scholars. They believed that the Immaculate Lineage of the Papacy had been corrupted, and that the Grand Synod created to verify the authenticity of the Popes was in fact selecting candidates of their own choice.

While this conspiracy theory was considered dangerously misguided, it was his proposed solution which had Xrist declared heretical. He suggested (in his famous 1111 Memorandum) that the descent of the Popes should be disregarded, and the church instead led by a mortal man who would be elected by senior clergymen.
