A Cult is a group which promotes an interpretation of the church's teachings, or a version of the bible, which is different from the generally accepted form. Some cults are formally classified as permitted or forbidden, depending on whether their teachings could be considered heretical. The most common cults are either papal cults, which attach a greater significance to the works and teachings of one former pope, and apocryphal cults, which accept as canon some body of writings for which there is insufficient evidence to determine whether it was actually written by some pope or saint.
