The district on the south side of 52nd is mostly full of fast food places, pawnbrokers and loan sharks. With the continual congestion in this area, pedestrians find it hard to cross the road and vehicles have nowhere to stop. So few shops manage to turn a profit, and most new establishments end up closing within a year.
