In TV of film, someone who gets an important role (such as becoming a writer or producer) based on their popularity on shows such as The Closet, which specifically selects interesting people to interview from practical roles (such as set engineers or technicians).

By extension, a shadowtalk term for anyone hired based on some quality entirely unrelated to the job.
