An ecclesiastical title, used by approximately a dozen archbishops. Technically (although rarely used) a clergyman of another rank can take the title; in this case they are named as, for example, Electros Camerlengo Deacon Smith. Other titles are always placed after Electros Camerlengo, with the exception of Saint (which makes the compound title "Electorate Saint") and Archbishop (which is omitted).
The Electros Camerlengo is responsible for maintaining the membership roster of a Synod or Grand Synod, and also carries the casting vote. However, the most commonly thought of priest in this role is the Camerlengo of the Most Divine Grand Synod, (colloquially known as the Spare Pope), who is responsible for discharging the papal duties on the death of the pope, until a successor can be appointed.
