MedEvac is an emergency transport provider, or a private ambulance service. Clients pay a monthly subscription, plus a large per-incident callout fee.
Each customer is issued a transponder, which is designed to fit into a wallet. On pressing the button, a MedEvac ambulance arrives in minutes (or even seconds), carrying a team of at least 2 qualified field surgeons, and four security officers (who are responsible for defending the client and the doctors).
Most security officers are ex-military, and are also expected to have basic paramedic training. They are usually armed on worlds where this is permitted. For their clients, mostly tax officials or detectives working in dangerous areas, it is easily worth 50kT to get out of a gang-initiated Radical storm in one piece.
On some worlds, notably Magellan, MedEvac have a government contract which, as well as giving a card to certain civil servants, requires them to film and report and weapon-related incident for the police files. In exchange for this, they can deploy Jet engined ambulances from orbital stations, and use the Shafts to reach their clients in a minute or less. They are also allowed significant lenience in the application for lethal weapon permits - Magellan MedEvac vans, for example, are known to carry Inhibition Pulse Grenades and Demo Cups as standard practise.
