A type of energy weapon which projects a charged plasma field. Usualy powered by a ZPM, most plasma-based weapons can recharge in 3-5 seconds after firing.

The plasma, on striking a target, momentarily creates a massive electrical charge which can often be enough to knock a normal person off balance. Some variants, such as the Defence Plasma Pistol (a personal sidearm, legal on most worlds) or Inhibition Pulse Grenade (also known as the IPG, or Plasma Grenade), adjust the charge/velocity ratio of the plasma projectile to cause a larger discharge force with less risk of permanent injury to the target.
