A novelty appliance, originally produced by makeshifters on Whence using the readily available FlashARM Microprocessor family. Talkie Toasters can provide witty discourse (or, more usually, a series of pre-written pithy catchphrases) on a variety of topics while it prepares your breakfast snack.
The toaster's basic repertoire is fairly limited, but can be easily expanded using AIML dictionaries available online (or purchased on cards from most commercial toaster manufacturers).
Optional Features
Talkie Toaster has, by default, a 24-slice bread hopper, into which the slices must be manually loaded. This can be replaced with a 1- or 2-loaf bin, which has internal grips capable of unwrapping and separating slices. There is also an option of a cutting module, capable of slicing bread itself.
The front panel temperature gauge and status LEDs can be replaced by a 17cm circular vidscreen, which by default shows a smiley face with animated mouth.
The elements can be augmented by a microwave unit (Dyclaess Appliances brand only), which has integral metal detector.
Its elements can be upgraded to a 18dpi thermal imager, allowing it to cook images onto your toast.
Another option is a keytag reader, which allows the toaster to read recipes from packaging of some instant foods, or to recall a user's particular preferences.
