The dominant political group of New Castile. The mafia is split into a number of families, but in recent years these compete and cooperate like states in a republic; there is little direct conflict in recent years.
Although membership of the mafia is technically illegal, they aren't usually prosecuted. Too many members of the planetary government are either associated with or indebted to the various families, who also own a significant fraction of the planet's legitimate businesses.
