Elixir

A fertility drug whose use is considered normal within the Vermendanyan Empire, and even mandatory on some worlds. As well as increasing the chance of pregnancy, the drug also leads to a higher incidence of multiple births.

A variant is commonly used in sports (originally due to the public belief that it was partly responsible for the Vermen's heightened strength), as well as by those in very tedious jobs. It produces a feeling of heightened alertness, although it is uncertain whether users do in fact become more focussed, or if they just feel that they are. Many street versions are mixed with other substances such as steroids and muscle growth stimulants, which may result in some degree of increased strength. Prolonged use can cause increased heart rate, sweating, paranoia and lower pitched voice in humans. Overdose can cause heart failure or seizures.
