Opik Lemmensward

Opik Lemmensward was originally the heir to a large pharmaceutical company, Steimzettel Pharmaceuticals. However, he developed the unusual belief that health care should be available to everyone, regardless of their background, and that it was wrong for his company to set such a high profit margin when their main customers are public bodies and charities.

His board of directors wouldn't tolerate his idea of supplying public health bodies at cost; but they eventually agreed to the re-investment of all profits from essential care for the poor into community projects. The first founded three hospitals on Celcorventri, two of them in the growing Calibre City. Then, after reaping huge success from using these for human trials of new drugs, Opik used the proceeds to set up the now legendary Shaft Medical Academy.
