Magellan/Red Park/Verdje Hotel
A hotel in
[Magellan/Red Park]
. A tower block in the New Deco style, if isolated from its neighbours the building would be a cylinder of white Cerament. Each floor has two circular corridors, with regular radial passageways (as well as service areas, elevators and storage, as well as the massive supporting wall which holds up the Plaza) between them. Outside is an outer ring of 64 rooms, and the inner ring of 56 smaller rooms look onto the 'Vertical Park'.
The park itself is a column a hundred meters across, filled with many varieties of trees supported by the cris-cross of vines and climbing plants.
Every 10th floor has a dining room or viewing gallery replacing the inner rooms, and here the park spreads out horizontally, providing a platform for the larger trees to grow from.
The hotel car park is from city levels B92 to B64. The lobby is on level B63 and B62, a wide open space with access to 3 main streets, below the main building which hangs overhead.
The main body of the hotel goes from B62 to A39, including 7 dining rooms and 4 lounges (which give pedestrial access to the park). Because of tradition, the levels within the hotel are numbered 0 to 100, with 0 at the top.
Main access from floor 100 to the lobby is via 4 staircases which come down from the outer corridor. The reception desk at the centre is inside a hollow tree whose branches support several couches in the level-90 lounge, and whose highest extremeties are on level 87 (city level B49).
On the roof of the hotel is the 'plaza', a sculpture park which also includes the A40 landing field.
Despite its highly fashionable design, the hotel's main patrons are those taking a night's break between the downline and the rest of the world.
