A room used for storing anything that doesn't have an association with any other part of the home, or when the appropriate room doesn't have space. Where you keep your old trouser press, exercise equipment or barbecue once you've got a new one.

By extension, the "misc" or "other" directory/drawer in an otherwise well-structured filing system (whether electronic or physical).
