Coffee Coffee

In popular situation comedy Real Worlds, inviting someone round for coffee became a commonly known euphemism for unspecified immoral interactions. Therefore, several times there were discussions along the lines of:

Janino: Thanks for helping me move the wardrobe. I should offer some coffee to thank you.
Blakeley: Wow, thanks! But do you mean coffee, or ...(long pause)... coffee?
Janino: Just coffee.
Blakeley: Any chance of a biscuit too?
Janino: Oh, go on then

After a while, this scene became well-known enough that fans would shout out "coffee!" during the pause, doubling it up. After a while, on the TV:Speculation:Whichcraft echo, Coffee Coffee became a standard euphemism for extra-marital relations, quickly spreading to the rest of the shadownets.

In an ironic twist, the show's characters went on to start using the terms "Coffee coffee" (to emphasise the coffee-ness; where they would once have said "Just coffee") and "Something like coffee" as the usual responses when someone is asked what kind of coffee they meant. This led to some confusion, as "coffee coffee" came into general usage from the TV series, while the hardcore online fans continued to use "Just coffee" and gave "Coffee Coffee" the opposite meaning. On shadownet now, both meanings are in use, but it is usual that only one meaning will be common on any single echo. If not, you can usually tell the difference by the capitalisation of the second 'c'.
