A laminate material with an extremely high tensile strength, Plasteel is formed of layers of a special polymer (its identity an industrial secret) and steel. In more recent products, the polymer layer is a single-molecule sheet of interlinked carbon chains, which exists as a massive complex ion bonded to iron in the top layer of the metal substrate. Metal modules incorporating only a few polymer layers demonstrate all the traditional advantages of steel construction, but with a much lower ductility and massively increased tolerance to sheering force.
