Inner Family
The heads of a Castillian Mafia family, the Inner Family may even be a literal family. Certainly, they often live as an extended family in large suburban houses. For a small Family, the Inner Family may be the actual relatives of the head (known as a Kingpin, or Head Man). Others may join by marrying into the family, or Safe Men being 'adopted' in recognition of the things they have done for the family.
Members of the Inner Family (but not necessarily relatives of adopted members) are a number of Bosses, depending on the size of the family. Any Boss takes orders from any member of the Family; if one wants his own men to perform some acts, he may sequester individual Family Soldiers or teams from any Boss, although if one does this too often he may find the Boss complaining to someone higher up within the Family's ever-changing hierarchy. Some Inner Family members also have retainers, who they hire and swear into the family directly, usually because they have some useful skill; but again, excessive use of this prerogative may upset Bosses who feel that people are leapfrogging the chain of promotion.
While there is no formal arrangement of which Family members can overrule each other, there is usually a generally understood pecking order so that a Boss (or Soldier) will not be punished if he uses his judgement when deciding whose orders take priority. If there is any argument, the Kingpin's word is final.
