Sector Police

An official term in many areas; law enforcement and security forces whose chain of command comes from the local government of a city or area, rather than from a centralised global police authority. In many cases, these are considered more like a private security company, hired to guard a particular facility or shopping area, rather than general crime prevention.

The term originated on Magellan, where some sectors instituted their own legal departments despite the presence of the existing police departments. In Shadowtalk, the term has come to mean a police force that exists mostly for show; uniforms on the street to deter casual criminal activity and reassure the public.
