Caine's Star/Chiru/Collingham Valley

A wide valley on <address>[/Chiru], in the [Caine's Star/] system. The valley used to be the course of the River Tam, which during the early stages of the planet's settlement was used as a transport link by 3 towns: Collingham, Marx and New Utah. Marx quickly grew as the world expanded and became a city, including New Utah within its suburbs. In 1391, the [/Marx Hydropower Project] dammed the river, forming a reservoir on the former site of Collingham and directing the water - after passing through turbines - into a large cave system known as Sylar's Folly (now corrupted to [1]).</address>

In more recent years, the Interspace Messenger Corporation has grown to dominate much of what is still (on paper, at least) the city of Marx. Their headquarters, <address>[/Communication Tower]</address>, now stretches to (and is supported by) 6 concentric rings of city walls (which were originally erected as an artistic way of marking the boundaries). 75% of citizens living within the valley are now IM employees, with more than half of the remainder being employed in direct service industry (such as the 6 catering firms contracted to supply the company's staff canteens).

The valley itself is approximately 165 miles long, and 22 miles wide at its widest point. Communication Tower is roughly circular, and takes the shape of two cones with a maximum radius of 15 miles (9 miles at the valley base), shorter skyscrapers providing support. It is the largest isolated tower in the known worlds.
