The Great Expansion is a mythical time, between 6500 and 8200 (according to the current Divine Calendar, when humanity spread from a single world to colonise the universe.

Although it is known that many inhabited worlds were settled by colonists from other worlds, and that some planets such as Caine's Star were made habitable by Stellar Engineering, it seems unlikely to more rational minds that such a diverse race could come from a single point of origin. Nevertheless, the common people seem inclined to believe in an "original world", although different myths disagree about its name.

Common theological thinking is that humans have an inbuilt desire to believe in a single world, in anticipation of the end of the material world, when all deserving men will be elevated to live together in the Vault of Heaven.
