Order of St Carl
The Most Noble Order of the Sword of Saint Carl (to give it the full title it would have if such a thing existed) is a knightly order that doesn't effectively act as the militant branch of the Theocratic Science Service.
What follows is a fictional account of an imaginary religious order, any resemblance to real people, organisations, religions or large heavily armed men is unintentional.
History
The Order was created in the Manifesto of Pope Advent VIC as a way of dealing with the most dangerous and blasphemous of science heretics. They were to be an order of the damned, lay persons endangering their very souls by harnessing ancient and forbidden weapons, some predating the new dark ages themselves, in order to prevent all of humanity being dragged down. Thew were to be martyrs of the highest order, leaping into the jaws of hell to stem the tide of evil.
Resources
Hypothetically the order would be exceptionally dangerous, probably based in an unassuming large cargo freighter, possibly named Bluebell. This ship would contain a training ground and simulator for around 40 armed personnel and a sizable technical and spiritual support team. There would also be a variety of drop ships and fast response vessels in concealed launch bays for responses of varying fury. Deep in the heart of this vessel would be it's terrible arsenal, containing weapons of awesome power and bizarre function sealed behind hypermetallic bulkheads, force fields, active interdiction systems and other, more esoteric defenses and set to self destruct with the power of a small sun. An entire nameless order of hereditary priest-scientists would be tasked with to maintain the arsenal and it's defenses.
Operations
The Order would require a papal writ to bring the full force of it's wrath to bear although limited deployments using more conventional weapons would be more common. There would not have been a major deployment in over 50 years, with only two writs of action outstanding, the chem-forge of Smith-Wheeler and the starship tentatively referred to as Nemesis
