Hereditary chairman of the Maveggan Flight Vehicle Company, as son of the founder Harlan Maveggan, and father of the current CEO Wald J Maveggan.

For much of his life, Cairfax hated being seen as a figurehead, or a spoiled rich kid. He was educated at the finest colleges, including Rylands University, and travelled frequently around the Federation, but always worried that his qualifications were academic. Determined to ensure that his own son wouldn't be as useless as he saw himself, he enrolled young Wald into the Gracini University faculty of engineering.
