Divine Genome

Although Genetic Engineering is mostly forbidden, a test for this gene is passed down through the Most Divine Grand Synod, allowing them to easily test whether or not a given individual is descended from a historic pope.

All living individuals with the gene are either the pope, or a temple ship pilot or navigator. The gene gives an innate sense of the direction and distance (including temporal displacement) of a jump through the Vault of Heaven. It is not known whether this is a sense which has not been replicated by technology, or simply a heightening of certain senses and improved function of particularly brain regions, instinctively extracting information about the jump from the 'judder' on a subconscious level.

Two individuals alive today have the gene: they are Carolyn Blank and Warnings Kelvin (aka Juyan). <ooc>These two are main characters in the TQ novel Timothy, which Angel is writing.</ooc>
