Magellan/Ambassadors Walk

A district of Magellan, between city levels A45 and A62. The Walk is built within what was once the Geneovan embassy, and is now mostly occupied by residential properties. As this was once a single building, it is full of identical offices and suites. There is a maze of power and water conduits, maintenance tunnels (now often used by small delivery vehicles), ventilation ducts and light wells hidden between the walls of adjoining apartments, keeping the functional machinery of the sector well hidden from the residents. Ironically, this state-of-the-art system was one of the reasons for the closure of the original embassy - the ductwork provided easy access for an assassin, who killed ambassador Collantz Smith in <date>Neovembar 919</date>.

The majority of the 6000 apartments are served by corridors with identical decor. The only distinguishing feature is the colour of the carpet, which is always divided in different colours (one on the left side of public corridors, one on the right). It is said that once you have learned the system, a native of the sector can always know where he is, and the shortest route to any other area whose colour-pair he knows. Addresses within Ambassador's Walk usually include a level number, and a colour code, as well as the apartment number. For example "Room 2016, Red/gold, A49" - which gives all the information necessary for a local to easily find the place.

Although the corridors are not legally roadways, many of them are large enough to allow vehicular access. This has become increasingly popular in recent years, now that the sector maintenance office can no longer afford to keep the lifts and trains running, although it is technically illegal.

Location

<address>[/] lies beneath Plaza, and is surrounded on the north and below by Hall. To the west, bridges connect it to Bridgeport, while the balconies on the south face of the old embassy building are shared between the Walk and Arcade. The eastern face looks out over Artisan Park, although there is no accessible route in this direction.</address>
