Screwstick
Screwsticks, or officially Orbital Installation Mass Habitats, are often manufactured based on the model originally designed for the settlement of Resindorven.
Structure
This article is copied from another page - I'd appreciate it if anyone who has time could update the page to make it more generic
When the Theocratic Science Service set up the first mine, thousand-unit prefabricated housing blocks were dropped from orbit, sinking just below the surface of the green-white sand. These 'tubes' are carefully calculated to provide the exact requirements for a menial worker to live. Individual cells are approximate spheres 8 feet in diameter, fitted out with sleeping and hygiene facilities as well as a single screen or computer terminal for leisure purposes. These are arranged in a spiral around a central 'stalk', allowing the whole module to screw itself into the ground. Food is supplied by an automatic system, which cuts a measured amount each day from stratophage-like engineered vines which run along the stalk and draw geothermal energy from the ground.
Shadowtalk
Screwstick is also used as a shadowtalk term for any device or process carefully designed to meet the minimum requirements (especially with regard to human comfort). This is generalised from the design of the original habitat blocks, engineered to be the cheapest way to house a person without violating human rights legislation. As of 844, this form is occasionally verbed (as in "You got screwsticked")
