Guldan

A cold world, Guldan's infrastructure is mostly confined to a few cities in the equatorial regions. It would probably be stuck as an infrastructure class 2 world, had its tradesmen not discovered the discontinuous transit route to Magellan, allowing certain exotic fruits which flourish in the cold climate to be exported at extremely competitive prices to the city-planet.

The main export started out as Jaxi Berries, among others. However, the planet was also able to capitalise on its mountains and open a number of ski resorts, of particular interest to mid-level Magellanic executives, who couldn't afford to travel by Temple ship but were seduced by the prospect of vacations in a near-wilderness environment. The success of the tourist trade led hoteliers to experiment with new gimmicks, which in turn led to the invention of Jaxi Liqueur. Originally an 'exclusive' to one domestic hotel chain, it is now exported to every world in Federation space. This continues to provide a steady source of income for farmers, even when blizzards close down the resorts.
