Zheff

Major exports: Cereal crops, Compression algorithms (Welsh City College has a well-known computing department where several professors own major patents in the field, attracting most students with a special interest in data compression)

Government: Federal Democracy. Each region (of which there are 76) has an elected counsel of varying size. Each counsel then sends 2 representatives (legislative and administrative) to the planetary government.

In counsel elections for larger farming regions, each citizen's vote may be weighted based on how much land they own (which, being an agricultural economy, dictates how valuable the person is to the planet's economy).

In other regions, elections may be a simple one man, one vote system. The counsel of Zheff, the city where the world government meets, is an exception. Although the city has a large business district, the only people who live within the city limits are students at the university, most of whom come from off-planet. Therefore the Zheff Region Legate and Secretary are elected by a system of corporate plutocracy.

Although Zheff was hard hit during the Chrome epidemic, it recovered quickly. By offering subsidies to new settlers, the android workforce was drastically reduced, and now accounts for no more than 40% of the farming population.
